Analytics engineer
A data role that turns raw data into clean, tested, documented datasets, usually in SQL.
Analytics engineer is the closest precedent for insights engineer. dbt Labs coined the title around 2018 for analysts who wrote SQL and brought software engineering habits to data transformation, namely version control, testing and documentation. Within five years it was a profession with its own conferences and certification.
Analytics engineers work on what people did. Insights engineers work on why. They share the habit of building the thing instead of doing it by hand.
