Consumer insights manager

The mid-to-senior role that runs a brand's research programme and its vendors. The insights engineer takes over this role.

A consumer insights manager owns a portfolio of studies for a brand or category. That means brand tracking, concept testing, segmentation and ad hoc qual. Most of the job is turning a stakeholder's question, often a brand manager's, into a brief, and turning vendor output into a recommendation.

The insights engineer takes over the role. The stakeholders and the questions stay the same. What changes is what gets produced, which is a system that answers the question instead of a study.
